Reading 1 Chronicles 29:10-13 (NIV)
"David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly, saying,
"Praise be to you, Lord,
the God of our father Israel,
from everlasting to everlasting.
Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power
and the glory and the majesty and the splendor,
for everything in heaven and earth is yours.
Yours, Lord, is the kingdom;
you are exalted as head over all.
Wealth and honor come from you;
you are the ruler of all things.
In your hands are strength and power
to exalt and give strength to all.
Now, our God, we give you thanks,
and praise your glorious name.
I wonder sometimes do we truly understand that? Everything comes from God and belongs to God.
Everything is his, all of it. Often we forget that as Christians even our own bodies are not our own.
"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies." 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NIV)
Let's try something today. Before making our requests known to God, let us pray David's prayer out loud, slowly and meaningfully.
I wonder if that will change the prayers that follow it...?
